AUSCULTATION BRASS

HOW DID THEY GET THEIR NAME?!? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!?

In 1985, once we began to perform publicly, a name for the group became priority #1.  It was important that the name blended both medicine and music.  After much consideration, we chose the name “Auscultation Brass”.  The dictionary defines auscultation as:

aus·cul·ta·tion /ˌôskəlˈtāSHən/  noun  - the action of listening to sounds from the heart, lungs, or other organs, typically with a stethoscope, as a part of medical diagnosis

Our logo, seen above, includes the earpiece of a stethoscope blended into the bell of a brass instrument.​
